Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1)to investigate the effect of incisor retraction on subsquent
changes of the soft tissue porfile (2)to assess the difference of soft tissue response between
the more incisor retractin group and lesser retraction group and, (3)to evaluate the influence
of lip thickness and strain upon the soft tissue changes. Pretreatment and retention cephalmetric
head films of twenty nine adult patients were examined. Result shows that there was strong
correlation between maxillary incisor retraction and soft tiss changes of upper and lower lips.
There were no significant changes of soft tissue profile in case of lesser upper incisor movement.
Thin upper lip group showed more significant changes of soft tissue profile than thick upper lip
group, but there was no difference in lower lips between two groups.
